The Alcove is part of MadTree Brewing, tucked into OTR. The building has two distinct event spaces. What Are the Best Photo Locations at The Alcove?

The Loft is where most of the reception portraits happen. That living chandelier does a lot of visual work in almost every wide shot I take in that room. It's the kind of detail that makes a photo instantly recognizable as The Alcove instead of "some venue somewhere."

The Gathering Room's moss wall is one of my favorite backdrops in the building. It's unexpected. It gives portraits a softness that a plain wall just can't compete with.

Because The Alcove sits in OTR, couples also get one of Cincinnati's most photogenic neighborhoods right outside the door. Brick streets, historic facades, and that classic OTR character are all within a short walk. That gives us options beyond the venue itself, if the timeline allows.

One of the things I love most about The Alcove is how differently it photographs depending on the time of year. A wedding here in late spring or summer means more daylight outside in OTR before the reception starts. Couples have time for a few extra portraits on the brick streets nearby. Once everyone's inside, The Loft's living chandelier does its job regardless of season, giving the room that same warm glow whether it's June or December.

Fall and winter weddings shift the timeline earlier since the days are shorter. I just plan portrait time around an earlier sunset instead of a later one. The room itself doesn't change. The chandelier and the overall feel of The Loft stay consistent no matter what's happening outside. The Gathering Room's moss wall holds its own too, since it's an interior backdrop that doesn't depend on the weather.

No matter when a couple gets married here, the building gives me something to work with. That's part of what makes The Alcove such a fun venue to return to throughout the year. The season changes the timeline, but the venue itself stays just as photogenic.

How to Plan Your Timeline for The Loft and Gathering Room

If your ceremony and reception are both happening within The Alcove's footprint, build in a little extra time for room transitions. This matters most if you're using both The Loft and The Gathering Room for different parts of the day.

If you're getting ready on-site, that only works in The Loft, since it's the one with its own getting-ready room. If you've booked The Gathering Room, plan to get ready off-site instead. Build travel time into your timeline.

For an afternoon ceremony with an evening reception, I always recommend carving out five or ten minutes to step outside in OTR before the sun goes down. Even a quick walk down the block can produce some of the most genuine portraits of the day. The couple finally gets a second to breathe.

And because catering is in-house, talk to your coordinator early about how that affects your timeline. Less back-and-forth with outside vendors usually means I can plan photo windows around your schedule instead of someone else's.
